# 5. Add the songwriters

Use the songwriters' **real names** whenever they are known.

## Find songwriters automatically

The automatic songwriter search requires the same Genius **Client Access Token** used for Genius lyric imports. If you skipped Genius setup earlier, selecting **Fetch Songwriters from Genius** will prompt you to enter one. Otherwise, use the manual steps below.

1. Open **Edit** → **Edit lyrics metadata...**.
2. Select **Fetch Songwriters from Genius**.
3. Enter the song name and select **Search**.
4. Choose the correct song.
5. Wait for the tool to retrieve the names, then verify them.

## Find songwriters manually

### Genius


1. Open the song on [Genius](https://genius.com).
2. Find its **Credits** section.
3. Check every person listed under **Writers**.
4. Use each songwriter's real name when it is available.

### Spotify


1. Open the song on Spotify.
2. Open the **Now Playing View**.
3. Find **Credits** and select **Show all**.
4. Check the **Written by** section.

## Add them manually


1. Open **Edit** → **Edit lyrics metadata...**.
2. Select **Add new key-value**, then choose **Songwriter**.
3. Enter one songwriter in the field.
4. Select **Add** and repeat for each additional songwriter.
5. Review the completed list for duplicates, stage names, and missing writers.

Add each songwriter separately. Do not combine multiple names into one Songwriter field.
